Charles Gordon Edwards joined his heavenly Father on Sunday morning, Aug. 3, 2008, after a lengthy fight against heart disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ouida Odom Edwards; three daughters, Carolyn Edwards Rice and her husband, Randy, Debbie Edwards Tullos and her husband, Vandy, and Sharon Edwards Glenn and her husband, Dave. Also survived by his sister, Rachel Edwards Perry, of South Carolina; grandchildren, Tammy Draughn Ott and her husband, Kerry, Tommy Draughn and his wife, Bronwen, Chad Ventola and his wife, Olivia, Jaci Glenn Juneau and her husband, Ryan, and Rachel Tullos; stepgrandchildren, Kennon Tullos Bannon and her husband Tony, Jaimee Tullos, Kip Tullos and Randall Rice; and 10 great-grandchildren with one due in December. He was predeceased by his brother, James Leonard Edwards, who was of Baton Rouge; parents, Charles Grady Edwards and Maggie Mae Sheriff Edwards and stepmother, Lois Powell Edwards, who were of Seneca, S.C. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired supervisor of planning and construction from Exxon Chemical USA. He was past president of Exxon Retirement Club, EX-An-14 from 1983 to 1991 and from 1994 to 1996. He devoted his life to serving God through his church. He was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church and previous member of St. Luke's United Methodist and Winbourne Methodist during which he served as chairman of the Administrative Board, trustees chairman, finance chairman, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Nominations Committee, Lay delegate to Conference and Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of the choir at St. Luke's United Methodist Church from 1965 to 1996 and Jefferson United Methodist Church from 1996 until he became too ill to attend. All fellow choir members are honorary pallbearers and there will be special seating available at the memorial service. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Tommy Draughn, Chad Ventola, Kip Tullos, Randall Rice, Ryan Juneau and Kerry Ott. Honorary pallbearers are former and current members of St. Luke's and Jefferson United Methodist choirs. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, Aug. 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday. A memorial service will be at Jefferson United Methodist Church, 10328 Jefferson Highway, at 4 p.m. Tuesday. A reception will follow after the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church.
