Charles Curtis Carter, 70, of Baton Rouge, passed away at his home on Friday, March 21, 2008. Born in Beaumont, Texas, to Curtis and Iola Carter, he lived and worked in Baton Rouge for the past 21 years. He retired from Jacobs Engineering in Baton Rouge and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served for eight years. He attended Mount Zion Baptist Church in Prairieville. Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, March 24, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by his son-in-law, the Rev. Henry Shelton, of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Prairieville. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Madison Carter. He is survived by his wife, Sammye Fazio Carter; seven children and their spouses, Carl and Lois Carter of Concrete, Wash., Debbie and Mike Pierson, of Beaumont, Charles Carter Sr., of Stanwood, Wash., Cheryl and Ed Hillebrandt, of Baytown, Texas, James and Valerie Carter, of Beaumont, Sherri and Henry Shelton, of Prairieville and Brenda and Robin Pilcher of Baton Rouge; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle and Daniel Hidalgo, of Hamshire, Texas, Candace and Mark Matak, of Hamshire, Charlie and Autumn Howard, of Beaumont, Drew Carter, of Nederland, Texas, Mellissa Carter, of Everett, Wash., Colin and Garrett Carter, of Stanwood, Wash., Chaz Carter, of Snahomish, Wash., Colton and Angelina Carter, of Beaumont and Joshua Pilcher, of Baton Rouge; four great-grandchildren, Cadance, Cara, Ava and Austin; three step-grandchildren, Mandy, Francesca and Samantha; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Jay Carter, of Houston; a sister, Jimmie Carol Powell, of San Leon, Texas; as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network PanCan.
