Charles Lawrence Bahlinger, Sr. passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 5:00 a.m. Charlie, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was born on May 19, 1931, the sixth of nine children born to J. Andrew Bahlinger, Jr. and Mathilda Fabacher Bahlinger. He was a hardworking man of impeccable character, integrity and faith and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He graduated from Catholic High School in 1948. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and spent time aboard the USS Quapaw and the USS Faribault. Upon his return from the Navy, he graduated from ULL formerly SLI in Lafayette. He began his career in the Heavy Equipment industry, working for FurlowLaughlin Equipment Co. for nearly 30 years. He served on the boards of Kornmeyer Furniture Store, Bahlinger, Inc., St. Josephs Academy as well as many other civic and church volunteer positions. He was a founding member and past president of Le Cercle de Bacchus as well as a member of the Baton Rouge Assembly. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Vera Rae Baker and by his children Carla B. Morel and husband Mark of Simpsonville, SC, Charles Bahlinger, Jr. and wife Donna HaglerBahlinger, Andre B. Treadwell and husband Martin, Nicole B.Geske and husband Chris, Melissa B. Brocato and husband Johnny and Mary B. McLellan and husband Ryan, all of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by his grandchildren Amanda and Matthew Morel, Madelyn Bahlinger, William and Margaret Treadwell, Brandon Geske, Olivia and John Brocato and Cade and Cole McLellan as well as his siblings Julius A. Bahlinger, III, Marion Bahlinger, Donald Bahlinger, SJ, BarbaraBahlinger, Reginald Bahlinger, Harold Bahlinger and KathleenBahlinger, CSJ. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother VernonBahlinger. Pallbearers are Mark Morel, Martin Treadwell, Chris Geske, Johnny Brocato, Ryan McLellan, George Wallace, Matthew Morel and Brandon Geske. Honorary Pallbearers are his brothers Julius, Marion, Reggie and Harold and his infamous Lunch Bunch friends Tommy Wallace, Frank Clark, Charlie Green, Frank Endom, John Lejeune, David McNeill andWayne Pugh. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817Jefferson Hwy., on Tuesday, January 22 from 6pm until 8pm and on Wednesday, January 23 at 10 am at St. George Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of Chrisitan Burial at 11 am. Burial to follow at St. George.
