Charlena H. Brown, a native of Prairieville, Louisiana, passed away on September 19, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born on January 16, 1930, in Amite, Louisiana to Charles and Charlotte Havis.
Charlena was a devoted religion teacher who imparted spiritual knowledge and values to countless students over the years. Her education extended beyond the classroom, as she also embraced the roles of telephone operator and housewife, showcasing her versatility and strong work ethic. In her leisure time, Charlena found joy in camping, traveling and rides on Sunday.
She is survived by her children, Brenda Brown, Barbara Picou, Frances Tripp, Deborah DeArmand, Mary Brown, David Brown, Daniel Brown, and Joseph Corrie Brown; her sisters, Judy Pratt, Hazel, Debbie, and Patsy; brothers, Anthony Joseph Melancon and Charles Havis; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Charlena was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, John L. Brown, Jr. and her son, John L. Brown III. She is also reunited with her parents, Charlotte Melancon and Charles Havis.
Visitation will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15615 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM with Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00 AM. Procession and burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. There will be a reception following the burial in The Legacy Room at Resthaven Funeral Home.
The family would like to give special thanks to their spouses, Louis, Pamela, Brenda, Charmaine, Ricky, Chantelle, Bobby, Brady; and other close relatives, Laurie and Brandan Brown.
The family would also like to give special thanks to their family sitters, Gaynell, Deja, and LaMarla; the hospice staff, Candace, Maya, Brittany, and LaMarla.
