Chalmers ("Buck") Van Wheat, Junior, entered into eternal rest on May 7,2017 at the age of 91. Born in Rio (near Bogalusa), Louisiana, he was orphaned by the age of eight. He always "trusted in the Lord" for everything he needed in life and was a very hard worker. He graduated from Louisiana State University after being a corpsman in the navy during the Pacific theater of World War 2, and retired from ExxonMobil.
He is preceded by his wife, Bobbie Furlow, his parents Ida Kendall and Chalmers Wheat, his sisters Sylvia Nobles and Audrey Holiday.
He leaves behind his three children and one grandchild. The survivors are Sandra Lynn Wheat married to John Leslie Harling, Chalmers Van Wheat III married to Linda Green, Chandler Layne Wheat and grandson Jonathan Layne Wheat. He also leaves behind two lifelong friends Gerald Montgomery and Buford Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Baton Rouge Food Bank in the memory of Chalmers Wheat, Jr.
Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy on Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. David Mellville. Private burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
