Cecil Kelly, Jr.

September 17, 1933 — December 6, 2017

Cecil Samuel Kelly, Jr., at the age of 84, passed away on December 6, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Cecil was a native of the "Delta" of Mississippi and a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Cecil's greatest loves were the Lord Jesus Christ, his wife and high school sweet heart of 62 years, Gloria "Doty" Kelly, and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 12:00 pm until funeral services are at 2:00 pm and burial to follow.

Cecil graduated from Shaw High School and The Citadel Military College of South Carolina. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force in Japan. After leaving the military, he came home to live in Shaw. He was President of the Lions Club, Chief of the Voluntary Fire Department, and was very active in leadership at the Shaw Methodist Church. In 1966, Cecil and his family moved to Jackson, Mississippi where he eventually served as President of Crawler Parts, Inc., importer and exporter of heavy equipment. In Jackson he served for years as Lay Leader of Riverside Methodist Church. When he retired, they moved to Baton Rouge to enjoy the love of spending time with his two grandsons.

He was survived by his wife and sweet heart, Doty Kelly; 3 children, Dare Kelly Didier of St. Francisville (Belton), Russel Patrick Kelly of Metairie (Dawn), and Molly Kelly Starkey (Don) of Prairieville; 2 grandsons, Nicholas Samuel Starkey of Clinton, Mississippi (Sarah) and Kevin Mathew Starkey; and two great grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Samul Kelly, Sr., his mother, Vallie Vance Kelly, and his son, Cecil Samuel Kelly, III.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and Wounded Warrior Project.

The family would like to acknowledge and give a special thanks to Dr. Michael Castine, Dr. Andrew Lauve and Dr. Terry Zellmer who provided the most amazing medical care and loving support during this time.

Cecil loved life to the fullest and impacted people that he met with his kindness, generosity and positive perspective. He will be missed dearly.
