Carol Martin

Carol Shingleur Martin, God called her home on January 25th, 2022. She passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. She was 83 years young and was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 10th, 1938.

Carol was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Carol developed an early passion for performing on stage and began dancing with the legendary "Jeffie Jean" at a young age. Her love for dance remained persistent throughout her life. She danced her heart out for years, performing in many dance reviews alongside her sister Sylvia and cousin Howard "Bubba" Helmke.

Carol adored music. Her favorite music was big band and jazz from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. She had a favorite song for every occasion and relied on music to elevate her spirits in both good and bad times. Carol also instilled a love of music in her children and grandchildren. People were frequently amazed that her children remembered words to popular big band songs from a bygone era.

Carol married and had four daughters, Patti McClendon (husband Cecil), Lori Miller, Jeannie Osborne (husband Del), Melissa Desselle (husband Kevin); six grandchildren, Amy Vest, Derek Polozola, Joshua Polozola, Karli Worthy, Kelley Desselle, Nick Desselle; and seven great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Martin, Macy Martin, Gray Butler, Blaine O'Connor, Allie Desselle, Katalina Polozola, and soon to be Dominic Polozola. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Her eyes lit up at the mention of their names or when looking into their faces.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until Funeral Service at 5:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
