Carol Lagg Guion

Carol Lagg Guion, a local beloved artist, actress, designer and seamstress, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on November 16, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on August 13, 1939, in Lead, South Dakota, she brought a spark of creativity and joy to everyone she encountered throughout her vibrant life.

Carol's artistic journey began early in her life, nurtured by her upbringing at First Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi. It was during her school days at Carr Central High School that her immense talents became evident. Her passion for art, music, and entertaining blossomed, and she achieved notable recognition as a member of the Lion's Club All-American Band. 

Carol’s love for the arts extended beyond mere appreciation; it was a lifelong dedication that helped her make significant contributions to her community there, where she and her future husband, Charles, co-founded the Special Education Class at FBC—a program that continues to touch lives to this day. Throughout her life, both Charles and Carol demonstrated unwavering support for the Special Olympics, illustrating her generous spirit and commitment to uplifting others.

Theater became a second home for her, where she astounded audiences in productions including “Gold in the Hills,” “Hello, Dolly!,” “My Fair Lady,” and “Steel Magnolias” at the Little Theaters in Vicksburg, MS, Brownsville, TX, and Baton Rouge, LA. Her love for the stage was matched only by her dazzling creations. Known lovingly as the "Goddess," she channeled her artistic talents into successful businesses focusing on ceramics, painting, wedding dresses, and elaborate costume designs, especially for the jubilant Mardi Gras season.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Carol Guion; and her sisters-in-law, Cathy Coe Lagg, and Nancy Guion Hammersla; nieces Toni Dickerson, Michelle Banks, and Frances Chisolm; nephews Bryan Lagg, Barry Lagg, and Scott Hammersla; along with a host of great nieces and nephews, who she treated like grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Charles Donelson Guion; her parents, Emil Arthur Lagg, Sr. and Ada Mae Muirhead Lagg; daughters, Judith Dianne Guion and Lisa Brooks Guion; sister, Marjorie Cates Montgomery; brother, Emil Arthur Lagg; and nephew, Tom Logue. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, starting at 12:30 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, LA. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. 

The family would like to give special thanks to Crystal Brown for her friendship, love, and support, along with the caring and compassion shown by Clarity Hospice during this difficult time.
