Carleton Merritt Sweeney, age 80, passed away at home May 21, 2018 in the loving arms of his children. He was welcomed home with loving arms by the love of his life, Janice. He served in the United States Army from 1961 until honorable discharge 1968. He was a founding member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and served many years in the Men's Club and as an usher. He was a graduate of Lake Charles High in which he was a three sport athlete earning many awards. He received a football scholarship from Tulane where he played quarterback from 56-58 before transferring to McNeese where he played football and baseball. He was known for his quiet disposition but competitive spirit. He coached at St. Aloysuis in New Orleans before going to work for Boyce Machinery in Reserve. He travelled between BR and Reserve daily for 15 years while always being active in all 4 of his children's multiple activities. He was active in the St. George community for many years. Dad and Mom worked together in business through their staffing company until retirement. He was a member of the Sertoma Club, Baton Rouge Round Table and Shenandoah Country Club where he enjoyed many years of golf and tennis. He is survived by his loving children, his son, Mike Sweeney(Nina); his daughter, Suzanne Keagle(Scott); his son, Brother Chris Sweeney S.C.; his son, Craig Sweeney (Mignon); his grandchildren, Christopher and Cameron Keagle, Merritt, Grant, Nathan and Reid Sweeney; great-grandchildren Blakeley and Kellen Keagle; his brother, Charles Sweeney(Charlotte); his sister, Lynn Lebleu(Coleman); and his many nieces, nephews and other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws.
