Byron Cecil Kistler P.E., beloved and devoted husband of Doris Kistler for 59 years, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. He was a loving father to Eileen Parent, Steve and Donna Kistler, Susan and Dan Potter, and Debbie and David Prudhome. He was a devoted grandfather to Elizabeth, David and Sarah Parent, Matthew Waters, Ashley and Steve Gomez, Allyson and Ben Summers, TSgt Scott Potter, USAF, and wife Kimberly, Michael and Therese Potter and Taylor and Logan Prudhome proud greatgrandfather of Madison Gomez, Gabriel, Nicholas, and Alexander Potter, and Mason and Myles Potter and sister, Sandra Peffly Gordon. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Kistler parents, Cecil and Sylvia Kistler brother, Robert Kistler and brotherinlaw, James Peffly. He graduated from Purdue University in 1951 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and served as an Officer in the U.S. Marine Corp from 19511953. He worked in Indiana, West Virginia, Texas and Louisiana. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Baton Rouge Radio Control RC Club, where he served as Treasurer for many years. Byron was a member of the St. James Lodge 47 in Baton Rouge. He was an avid fan of RC building and flying model airplanes and enjoyed attending air shows across America. He was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank Dr. David Hansen and staff at Mary Bird Perkins and St. Joseph Hospice for their loving care. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, on Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 6 pm 8 pm with a masonic service at 7 pm and will resume on Monday, October 22, from 1 pm until funeral services at 2 pm conducted by Pastor Hawley Wolfe. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers are Steve Kistler, Dan Potter, Michael Potter and Mason Potter, and David Prudhome and Logan Prudhome. Honorary pallbearers are George Doyle, Charles Hoffman, Louis Fougerousse, and TSgt Scott Potter, USAF. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 9340 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, La 70815 or St. Joseph Hospice, 10615 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.
