Buddy Amoroso

Anthony "Buddy" Joseph Amoroso IV, a devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather, passed away on the morning of Saturday, June 30 in St. Francisville, Louisiana. He was 61, and a resident and native of Baton Rouge.

Visitations will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA from 5:00 to 9:00 on Thursday, July 5, and from 10:00 to 1:00 on Friday, July 6.

A graveside service for the family, and a private funeral will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, where Buddy was a member and a deacon. A public memorial for the city will be announced at a later date.

Buddy was born to Anthony and Patricia Amoroso on December 5, 1956. He attended Broadmoor High School, and was a graduate of Oral Roberts University. He was a small business owner in Baton Rouge, and worked for the family business, Prime Properties.

Buddy was the definition of a public servant. He was a founding member and co-chair of Baton Rouge Tax Busters. Prior to his two terms representing District 8 on the Metropolitan Council, he served as a board member of the East Baton Rouge Airport Commission, the Alcohol Beverage Control Board, as Chairman of the Baton Rouge Apartment Association, and as President of the Apartment Association of Louisiana. When he first ran for District 8, he did so unopposed, and when he ran for re-election, he received 66[[][%]] of the vote in a three-person primary. He was well loved as a councilman, mostly due to his ability to bridge sides together for common sense solutions. He sought government efficiency through legislation creating such committees as the Smart City Committee. He sought to use technology to improve traffic, permitting, and even law enforcement-being one of the biggest advocates of body cameras. Buddy was currently working towards a comprehensive reform of the Flood Plain Development Code in addition to many other ways to better his beloved home town. He truly had a heart for this city and a desire to do what he thought would best serve the people of Baton Rouge.

Buddy is preceded in death by his father, Anthony Joseph Amoroso III.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Denise Waters Amoroso; a son, Anthony Joseph Amoroso V; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Thaddeaus Swart, Michal Ann and Joshua Traina; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Vickie and Harold Keith, JoAnn and Greg Alford, Lori and David Planchard, Mary Pat and Trent Thevenot; his mother, Patricia Hidalgo Amoroso; and five grandchildren, Lilla Charlotte Traina, Josie Abigail Traina, Joseph Anthony Traina, and Asher Leland McCoy Swart, as well as many nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Joseph Amoroso V, Joshua Traina, Thaddeaus Swart, Nathan Smith, Ryan Keith, Braden Keith, Kyle Planchard, John Paul Thevenot, Jacob Thevenot, and J Hudson.
