Bruce Dempsey, age 59, passed away December 5, 2016 in Baton Rouge, LA. Bruce was born on December 29, 1956 in Springfield, Ohio and moved to Baton Rouge shortly thereafter. He attended and graduated from Woodlawn High School. After graduating, he worked as a carpenter and had his own framing crews building houses throughout the Baton Rouge area. In his 20's, he went to work at Georgia Pacific which later became Georgia Gulf. He worked his way up from a laborer position to shift supervisor over his 30 year career. He was very proud of the relationships and friends he made while working at Georgia Gulf. He enjoyed collecting and rebuilding classic cars, camping, following Nascar, and outdoor cooking with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Cook Dempsey; his brother and spouse, Dwayne and Sandi Dempsey; two sisters, Chantelle and Chantay Dempsey; his daughter, Allyson Nicole Dempsey; his two grandchildren, Heidi Claire and Hayden Prejean; Sister in law and husband, Christy and Joseph Perry; Nephew, Johnathan Dempsey; and Niece, Claire Frances Perry.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Danielle Rene Dempsey; his mother Dorothy Simpson; and his father, Jack Dempsey.
There will be a visitation visitation on Friday, December 9, from 9:00 am until 12 noon with the funeral service immediately following at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Zion Cemetery, 17683 Hwy 933, Galvez, Louisiana.
