Brian James Bordelon, 37, passed away at his home in Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, after a three-year battle with colon cancer. Brian is survived by his wife of six years, Dayna Leaman-Bordelon, of New Orleans; mother, Vicki Drouin, Pineville; father, Kenneth Bordelon, Baton Rouge; sister, Sharla Neyland; brother-in-law, Chad; and niece, Lenora Mae, all of Baton Rouge; and grandfather, Iver Drouin, of Hessmer. Preceded in death by his grandmother, Annie Mae Drouin; and grandparents, Elie and Mathilda Bordelon. Born in San Antonio, Brian grew up in Pineville. He graduated from Pineville High School in 1989 and obtained his bachelor's degree in creative writing from LSU in 1992. Brian moved to New Orleans in 1993, where he met his wife, Dayna. Always driven, he devoted himself to several fields, serving as a city paramedic, a biology instructor, a soccer coach and a technical support analyst. After Hurricane Katrina, the two relocated to Baton Rouge, where Brian worked as a computer software instructor at Lantec. He was also a NFL cameraman for the New Orleans Saints. As hard as he worked, he played even harder. Brian's passions were the Saints, LSU football and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He played blues guitar as readily as a round of golf. He was an avid storyteller and loved the company of his family and friends, old and new. Following cremation, a memorial service honoring Brian's life will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Mark Drouin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, P.O. Box 6003, Albert Lea, MN 56007-6603 or St. Joseph Hospice, 8923 Bluebonnet Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
