Brenda Gail Jones Cloy, born August 26, 1950 to Thomas Bitney Jones and Lucille Wicker Jones. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and passed away peacefully at Carpenter House on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 after a brief illness. She was 68 years old.
Brenda was a retired educator who devoted 28 years to her profession. Brenda received a Bachelor’s degree from LSU in Home Economics in 1972. She also earned a Master’s degree in Education from Southeastern. Brenda’s love of children and teaching began while she was a children’s librarian at the Goodwood Library. She began teaching kindergarten and later Pre-K in the earliest years when Louisiana recognized the need for this investment in the future. She was innovative and used her love of reading to instill that same love in her classroom. Brenda has shaped the lives of countless children and for this, we are forever grateful.
Brenda is survived by her devoted brother and best friend, Thomas Gary Jones of Baton Rouge and sister, Carolyn Jones Phillpotts (Michael) of Augusta, Georgia. She is also survived by her son Richard Thomas Cloy of Baton Rouge and her daughter and confidante, Katie Cloy Foster (Mike) of Baton Rouge and her three precious grandsons, Logan, Jackson and Benjamin which she considered her biggest blessings. She is also survived by numerous cousins who loved her gentle spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents, her children’s grandparents, Charles and Myree Wood Cloy, her maternal grandparents, Benjamin and Anna Wicker and her paternal grandparents, William and Vinie Odom Jones.
