Bonnie Jean Ozley Hammons, age 90, a resident of Baton Rouge for 68 years, passed away on February 15, 2025.
Bonnie was the only child born to Don and Ruby Ozley on December 6, 1934 in Arcadia, LA. Bonnie graduated from Arcadia High School in 1953 followed by her graduation from Louisiana Tech University in 1957. Bonnie married the love of her life, Donald Wayne Hammons, on January 27, 1956. They were married 62 years until Don's death in 2018. They went on to live in Arcadia, Denver CO finally settling in Baton Rouge. Bonnie worked as an Executive Secretary during her career at Gulf Union, Delta Southern and Louisiana National Bank before it became Chase Bank where she retired in 1997.
Bonnie loved to shop - she was a pro on finding the best deals and the best parking spot. Her good friend says that "parking in the store" wouldn't be quite close enough. She also loved to take the back roads everywhere. Road trips were her favorite. Bonnie loved to travel, with cruising and the beach being her favorites. She loved watching LSU sports as well as the NFL. She loved to cheer on all the former LSU players.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Jayne Smith and husband, David, of Bulverde, TX and Donna Hammons of Baton Rouge. Grandchildren Sarah Smith and Grant Smith of Dallas, TX as well as several nieces and nephews. Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 2:30pm In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clarity Hospice, 9191 Bluebonnet, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
