Robert (Bob) Foster Penn, 72, was born on June 14, 1944 in Lake Charles, LA to Robert F Penn and Margie Labby Penn Cox. He passed away at home on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 2:00am after a lengthy illness.
Bob was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and graduated from Istrouma High School. He served four years in the U.S. Army; two years in Germany. After his military service, he returned to Baton Rouge and worked for Allied Chemical for several years. He then went to work with Chevron Oil Company for many years, retiring in 2001. While working for Chevron, he accepted overseas positions in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Venezuela.
As an avid sports fan, he was often seen cheering for his son who played football and baseball for Parkview Baptist High School. He was a devoted fan of anything LSU sports. Also, he was active as coach of BREC Boys Youth baseball for seven years, winning the state championship twice.
Bob was honored on Monday, April 17, 2017 by Bridgeway Hospice with a military service award.
He is survived by a son, Eric S Penn of Baton Rouge, LA; a sister, Myrtis Penn Horton and husband, Joe of Birmingham, AL; a brother, Roger Penn Sr. and wife, Delores of De Berry, TX.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Margie Labby Penn Cox and stepfather, William "Otto" Cox; father Robert F Penn and stepmother Doris Penn; and sister, Jean Ann Penn Whiteside.
Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 10:00 am until funeral services at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Pallbearers will be Kip Bourgeois, Doss Bourgeois, Bryan O'Neill, Roger Penn, Don LeBlanc and Doug Jones.
The family would like to thank Randy Currier, Associate Pastor with First New Testament Church in Baton Rouge, Bridgeway Hospice and his sitters, Gwen James; Arienna James; Betty Alex; Lauren Alexander for their loving care.
