Billy George Shamburger, age 89, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA for many years and recently domiciled in Fort Worth, TX, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior June 16, 2024.
Bill was born in Shreveport, LA on September 17, 1934 and lived in Mooringsport, LA until his high-school years. He shared many memories of living in the depression and about his life. His favorites were the many escapades of he and his brother on their paper route, and the joys of playing baseball. He moved with his family to Lumberton, MS when he was 16, where he met and married his wife, Nelda Marie Hale. Bill was active in his church, singing in the youth choir and had many friends. He attended University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with a degree in Chemistry. He was a member of ROTC and joined the Army as an officer after college. He and Nelda moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina and enjoyed their years there very much.
After earning his Master’s in Chemistry and Physics from LSU, Bill joined Dow Chemical where he had a very successful career. He ultimately became Worldwide Polyethylene Technology manager and enjoyed traveling the world in that role. Following retirement, Bill founded his own business, Shamburger Consulting and continued to consult across many nations.
As a renaissance man Bill was the combination of technically brilliant, an artist, a wood carver, an athlete, a writer and much more. He loved his family above all and gave himself to provide and care for them. He loved family vacations & family holidays, adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was crazy about all things LSU. We enjoyed his quick wit and robust laugh. He was an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Lisa Dryden and Karen Tyrone Ryne (Wallace), a brother John C Shamburger (Joan), six grandchildren Laura Tyrone, Austin Tyrone (Hannah), Kayela Jenkins, Lacey Jenkins (Chad), Halee Hix (Morgan), and Madison Dryden; and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Charlotte Tyrone.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda, his sisters Jeanne Cochran and BobbieJo Ingram, and his parents John and Margaret Shamburger.
Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 1:30 p.m. until a celebration of life at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Wounded Warriors in Bill’s name.
The family of Bill Shamburger wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the many people who loved him and cared for him in recent years.
