Bill Elam, resident of Baton Rouge, passed away as a result of a brain tumor on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the age of 80. He was a veteran for the United States Air Force and longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where he was a committed adorer in the adoration chapel for over 30 years. Bill was a volunteer firefighter for St. George and led the fight to create the St. George Fire Protection District. Bill served on the BREC Commission for 30 years, EBR Planning Commission, and the WestminsterPine Park Subdivision Civic Association Board and was very active in the community. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved corny jokes.
Bill is survived by his loving and caring wife of 52 years, Pat Elam two daughters, Lee Ann Hamm and husband John, and Alicia Elam son, Bill Elam daughterinlaw, Susan Extein Elam two grandchildren, John L. Hamm IV and James P. Hamm sister, Priscilla Kluczykowski and three brothers, Michael Elam and wife Karen, Paul Elam, and James Elam.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William H. Elam Sr. and Irene Dobbs brother, Charles E. Elam, and sister, Silvia Collier.
Visitation will be observed on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, from 11:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be: John Hamm, Johnny Hamm, Patrick Hamm, Laurent Troxclair, Ted Donaldson, and Darrell Ourso.
Honorary pallbearers are The Bayou Kruisers Camping Club. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to OLOM St. Vincent de Paul or a charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign online memorial, or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
