Betty Garig Windham, a native of Baton Rouge, passed away September 24, 2018 at the age of 91 years old.
She was a graduate of University High School of Baton Rouge and attended LSU. She was born and grew up in Baton Rouge, and lived several childhood years in Denham Springs. She and her husband Malcolm V Windham, also of Baton Rouge, raised their family in the Houston area where she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pasadena.
The Windhams returned to Baton Rouge in 1980. Throughout her life, she succeeded at multiple pursuits—including in the Denham Springs Garden Club where she was instrumental in planning the Alley of Live Oaks and in winning the Cleanest City award; she was owner of Needles & Things in Pasadena, an avid reader and member of the Suburban Reviewers book club of Denham Springs and enjoyed oil painting. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and attended Broadmoor Baptist. She often said her greatest success, however, was her family-daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters Elizabeth Windham Hartzog (Miller), Laurie Windham and Leslie Windham (Terry Ratliff); grandchildren Dr. Austin Garig Meyer (Dr. Brittany Rosales), Katie Hartzog Simmons (Michael), Karen Hartzog, Carole Hartzog Bourey (Guillaume), Nathan Hartzog (Rachael) and Andrew Hartzog; great grandchildren Margaux Eloise Bourey and Corrie Elizabeth Simmons, and her sister, Marion Garig Cowley of Chapel Hill, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Malcolm Windham, her parents, Philip and Mary Freeman Garig of Denham Springs and Baton Rouge, and sisters Eleanor Garig Brammer and Shirley Garig Gilbert, both of Baton Rouge.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday 9/29/18, the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., both at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Goodwood Blvd. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven.
