Betty Tate

January 2, 1928 — May 9, 2013

Betty Blakeslee Tate was born in Shawnee, Colorado on January, 2, 1928 in her grandmothers 1 bedroom log cabin. A resident of Baton Rouge, LA she passed away on May 9, 2013 at the age of 85 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. Betty met the love of her life, Fred Tate, at Fort Carson during a dance. On December 8, 1949, they married. Together, they had 3 beautiful children: Mary Ann, Billy and Vicki. Betty was always characterized by her friends and family as one of the most generous and caring people that they had ever met. She was known to be an incredibly selfless woman, always putting the needs of others before her own. Betty was always quick to smile and her laugh could light up a room. She was a devoted Christian and lived each day as the Lord would. Betty was a special person. She spent most of her life caring for others and was always there if anyone needed her. Betty adored her family. She would do anything for them and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible. Betty especially enjoyed trips to Colorado with her family. Many members of her family still live in the Denver area and seeing them always brought joy to her heart. She also enjoyed telling stories of growing up on the ranch to all her children and grandchildren. To her, every mountain had a story to tell and no matter how many times a story would be told, her children always enjoyed listening to each one. She was a charter member of Oakcrest Baptist church for over 30 years and an active member of Zoar Baptist church, where she served on the mission committee. She was also a member of WMU and Senior Adult Ministries. She was also the treasurer of her Exxon Annuitant Club. Betty loved her many nieces and nephews, her church family, neighbors, the ladies at her Sunday school class at Zoar and the ladies that she played cards with on Friday nights. She was a great friend, daughter, mother, sister and grandmother.
