Betty Speight

November 23, 1959 — October 1, 2015

Betty Ann Harper Speight passed peacefully into her Father's hands on Thursday, October 1, 2015.

Betty was born on November 23, 1959, in Pineville, LA, to Shirley Bordelon Helms and Ernest Henry Harper. The family grew up in Marksville and enjoyed ripping in the mud, eating Pronto Pups, and cooking Cochon de Lait together as a family on the banks of Spring Bayou. She exuded a joyful and cheerful attitude at all times, in all circumstances, despite overcoming many obstacles. Betty was blessed with 3 wonderful children even though she had been told that she would never be able to have children. She often said that her "babies" fulfilled her every dream. In 2001, she and her children met her devoted husband, Stephen "Steve" Speight and they were married in 2003. He has been a blessing to them all as both a devoted husband to Betty and attentive father to her "babies". She was known for her giving spirit and devoted many volunteer hours in support of local and national causes. Her abundant love of life was infectious and touched many people beyond her circle of family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Mark Speight of Baton Rouge, LA; her "babies", April Smith and husband Ray, Angrielle "Angel" Phillips and fiancé Desmond Knighton, Anthony Brown, Jr. and wife Brittany of Richmond, TX; her brothers, Ernest Joseph Harper and wife Rebecca, and Chris Paul Harper and wife Lori Ann; brother-in-law, Raymond G. Speight and wife, Cindy, of Okinawa, Japan; sister-in-law, Barbara Hilbert and husband, Don of Seguin, TX; grandchildren, Rayvon, Jada, Ray and Brooklyn Smith and Malachi Knighton; nieces and nephews, Philip Harper and fiancée Rachel Smith, Amber Blazier, Trey Blazier, Tyler Blazier, Christopher Harper, Nicholas Harper and Stefan Hilbert and wife Jamie of Seguin, TX, Daniel Hilbert and wife Jessica of Ft. Worth, TX.

Other survivors include numerous cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. Members of her Circle K family were also very important to her.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father, and a niece, Danielle Friedman.
