Betty Southard

Betty Sue Mitchell Southard, age 74, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on November 6, 2016.

Betty was born in Appalachia, Virginia, and attended Appalachia High School. She worked at Mack's Drug Store for a number of years until she met and married the love of her life Robert Southard. Robert and Betty moved to Baton Rouge in 1965. Although, she loved her life in Baton Rouge, she longed to return home to the Appalachian Mountains.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all. Her greatest joy in life was caring for her family. "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:28.

She is survived by her children, Robert Southard, Jr. (Lisa), Kevin Southard, and Gina Moise (Tim); her grandchildren, Robert C. Southard III, Samantha Southard, Emily Southard, Kelsy Southard, Amelia Southard, Reed Moise, Haley Southard, and Olivia Moise; her siblings, Clara Jane Bolling, Gerald Mitchell, Patsy Hubbard (Steve), Terry Mitchell, Barbara Chase (Merwyn), Stevie Mitchell (Mary Jane), Kathy Mitchell; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Southard, Sr.; her parents, Emaline Frazier Mitchell and Duey Donald Mitchell, her brothers, Donnie Mitchell and Gilbert Mitchell; and her sister, Shirly Keesee.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., from 12:00 PM until services at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
