Betty Root

A loving and generous Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and friend to all, Bette, a resident and native of Baton Rouge, passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 11, 2016.

Bette was born on February 23, 1937 to George Graham and Mary Ruth Polite Teekel. A 1954 graduate of Istrouma High School, she was actively involved in planning/hosting class reunions and loved spending time with her high school classmates. She attended L.S.U. from 1954-1957, she married Donald E. Root and started their family.

She traveled extensively, as the owner of Adventures, Inc., and enjoyed having her Mother work along side her. Shortly after selling the travel agency, Don became ill and Bette assumed his position as President of Capitol Welders Supply Company, Inc., a position she held until her death.

Bette enjoyed hosting the annual Capital Welders Christmas party for her employees and their spouses, family get to-gathers, gardening and attending school functions with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bette is survived by her sons, Donald Kelly Root and wife, Stacy, Terry Eugene Root and wife, Missy, daughter, Elizabeth Ruth "Ruthie" Brian and husband Wayne; her grandchildren, Mindy Miranda and husband Israel, Lindsey Brian, Kaitlyn Jenkins and husband Joel, Sean Root, Emilee Root, Elizabeth Root, Donald Aaron Root, Madilynn Root; great-grandchildren, Tori Miranda, Ian Miranda and Hollen Jenkins; her brothers, Thomas Teekel and Claude Ogden and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Donald Eugene Root; an infant son, Donald Eugene Root, Jr.; granddaughter, Taylor Whitney Brian; parents, George Graham and Mary Ruth Polite Teekel; brothers, Alfred Teekel and George Teekel Jr.

You were always there when we needed you most. We will miss you every day!

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816 on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, from 5:00pm - 9:00pm and will resume on Thursday, September 15, 2016, from 10:30am until Funeral Service at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Capital Welders Supply Co., Inc.
