Fannie "Betty" Elizabeth Kelley passed away on May 31, 2017 at home. Here is her story: "I am a native of Panama City, Florida born to Christopher Columbus and Iva Pearl Holley, now deceased. I had two brothers, Charles and Raymond Holley, both deceased. I graduated from Bay County High School and shortly after moved to Baton Rouge where, for the last 60 years, I have resided. I became a professional artist by the age of 40 and have paintings, drawings and sculptures enjoyed by many. I was an avid saltwater fisherman and won Lady Angler of the Year--twice. I loved being in the kitchen and was well known for my chicken and dumplings, Thanksgiving dressing and especially my fruit salad and buttermilk pound cake which were recipes handed down from my Mother. My Mother also gave me my love for flowers and gardening which I enjoyed immensely. I was a long time member of Istrouma Baptist Church and active in the children's Bible School. I was on the Church league softball and bowling teams. I was a former member of Eastern Star, a Cub Scout Den Mother and a volunteer at the Baton Rouge General Hospital and Baton Rouge Guest House.
I leave behind my wonderful and loving children, John Kelley, Jr and wife Vicki, Debria Carline, and Chris Kelley and wife Tessie. I have four grandchildren, Nikki Carline Barbre and husband Mark, John "Curt" Kelley, III and wife Brooke, Trent Kelley and Taylor Kelley. I also have four great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Anthony Barbre and Cooper and Cullen Kelley.
I have a strong love for the Lord and my lifelong friends, Doris Kirkland, Faye Franklin and especially my life partner, Ronnie Bordelon, who I travelled extensively with to all 50 states and abroad to Palestine, Jerusalem, walking where Jesus walked, and Paris, France.
I would like to thank my former husband, John "J.C." Kelley, Sr., for being such a loving Dad to our three children.
My life on earth has been a good and exciting one but I have fought a hard battle with rheumatoid arthritis for 40 years and recently leukemia. Now Jesus has other plans for me."
Betty was a faithful supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital, The Arthritis Foundation and The Cancer Society. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her name to one of her favorite charities or a charity of your choice.
