Betty W. Henry

“I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-6).

Our loving mother and grandmother passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 93, in her Baton Rouge home, surrounded by her family and caregiver, Margaret.

Betty was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother (known as “Marnie” to her grandsons), who modeled Christian values. She never met a stranger and would always share the power and love of God. She was a wonderful cook and passed on her love of cooking to her daughters and grandsons. Betty loved gardening and planting beautiful flowers.

The family is grateful for her caregivers, especially Margaret Collins, who provided much love, comfort, and compassion for our mother. She was truly a blessing to our family. A special thanks to the nurses of Cardinal Hospice, especially Mark, Tasha, and Callie, who took wonderful care of our mom and provided much needed support for our family. We would also like to express our gratitude to Cathy, Wanda and Reverend Womack of Cardinal Hospice for their personal care and spiritual support.

Betty is preceded in death by her mother, Effie Iona Wesley; and brother, Norman Dale Wesley, Sr. 

She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Taylor and Susan Taylor Blanchard (David) of Baton Rouge, LA; two grandsons, Nathan Blanchard of Austin, TX and Matthew Blanchard of Chandler, AZ.

There will be a private graveside service for the immediate family, officiated by Brother Ray Hebert. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area, 3772 North Blvd Baton Rouge, LA 70806.

While her physical presence is gone, her lessons, love and encouragement will stay with us forever. “Without you there would be no me. I am everything reflected in your eyes. I am everything approved by your smile. I am everything born of your guidance. I am me only because of you.” (R.E. Goodrich).
