Betty Ellis Breaux passed away peacefully at her home in Baton Rouge surrounded by family on October 30, 2023.
Betty was born on December 11, 1928 in DeQuincy, Louisiana. She attended Louisiana State University and University of South Louisiana receiving degrees in business and English. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. After graduating, she married her college sweetheart, Jack L. Breaux, who later became the mayor of Zachary, LA. They had two sons, Dr. Jack L. Breaux, Jr. and Dr. Frank W. Breaux.
Betty was employed by Copolymer before entering the Baton Rouge School System as an English teacher. She was later appointed by Governor Dave Treen to the Louisiana State Parole Board. Additionally, she was appointed to the National Board of Education by President Ronald Reagan.
Betty devoted her life to being a loving mother and grandmother and created a home based on Christian faith and unconditional love. She reveled in every accomplishment of her children and grandchildren, and never left them without saying “I love you.”
An accomplished hostess, Betty will be remembered for her beautiful dinner parties for friends and family. She was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and for many years hosted a weekly interdenominational Bible study in her home.
Betty was an avid fan of old movies and loved collecting them. She also loved reading and spent many hours browsing in bookstores. She also loved to travel and enjoyed trips abroad with her beloved friend, Ann Keogh. Betty was a member of the Baton Rouge Opera Guild, Baton Rouge Volunteer Opera and Baton Rouge Symphony League. Interested in history and genealogy, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Breaux; her mother, Lillian Perkins; stepfather, Cecil Perkins; and two brothers General B.J. Ellis and Colonel Donald E. Ellis. She is survived by sons, Dr. Jack Breaux Jr. (Carolyn), Dr. Frank Breaux (Susan); grandchildren, Jennifer Breaux McHam (Mark), Dr. Jack L. Breaux, III (Elizabeth), Frank W. Breaux Jr. (Danielle), Catherine Breaux Moore (Jonathan), and Nicole Wester (Scott); great-grandchildren, Grace Wester, Lily Wester, Tristan McHam, Pierce McHam, Margaret Moore, James Moore, and Charlotte Breaux.
The family would also like to thank her caregivers, Ruth Williams, Brenda Brown, Kendra Daily, and Kendrick White, for their loving and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Baton Rouge, LA.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until a brief Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Private graveside services will be held at Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary, LA.
