Betsy Yarbro Brandt, 49, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Oschner Medical Center-Baton Rouge. Born Feb. 19, 1959, she graduated from Lee High School and attended USL and LSU, where she majored in graphic art. A native of Baton Rouge, Betsy spent nearly 20 years managing her family's restaurants, Mickey's Gold Nugget and The Place. Later, she was co-owner and manager of Chalet Brandt. After retiring from the restaurant business, she returned to her passion for art, and began painting under her friend and mentor, Norma Roy. Her love for great food endured. She was the consummate entertainer, always finding a reason to host a dinner party for friends and family. She was an avid tennis player and loved the outdoors. She volunteered for St. Anthony's House and the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center and was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Betsy was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. She will always be remembered for her quirky sense of humor and zest for life. She is survived by her daughter, Lacey Brandt, of Baton Rouge; mother and stepfather, Doris and Chuck Carr, of Ethel; brothers, David and John Yarbro, both of Baton Rouge; and sisters, Molly Dugas, of Robert, and Rebecca Page, of Covington; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Travis Brandt; and father, Robert Yarbro. A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Monday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center or the American Heart Association. Resthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
