Bethel Edward Gainey, Jr.
Bethel Edward Gainey, Jr., passed away at the age of 84 on Sunday, December 14, 2014.
He retired from Bellsouth with 32 years of service and was a member of Telcom Pioneers. Ed is also retired from the Louisiana Army National Guard after serving for 28 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ed was a member of the 82nd Airborne Infantry, 505 Parachute Infantry in Communication, 20th Special Forces in 1961 Special Branch of the Army, member of Chapter XXX Special Forces Association , Sargeant Major in the engineering outfit LANG, Mississippi National Guard Special Forces, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. He was an avid skydiver and one of the originalfirst members of the Louisiana Skydivers team.
Ed is survived by his wife, Mary D. Gainey children, Cynthia Lundgren and husband James, and Mark W. Gainey granchildren, Paige and Weston Lundgren sisters, Edith Braud and Lorraine Simmons and several nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his son, Clint Edward Gainey mother, Elizabeth Gainey sister, Pearl Choates.
Visiting hours will be observed at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, on Thursday, December 18, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 8:00 AM until service time at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
