Bessie "Bess" Galatas, a resident of Baton Rouge passed away on May 7, 2017.
Bessie was born on August 20, 1919 in Washington Parish. She married Mr. Lawton W. Heughan in 1938. They had two sons, Lawton Heughan and Ronnie Heughan. They resided in Madisonville, LA, until the passing of her husband in 1945.
Bessie moved back to Baton Rouge where she married Morgan Galatas, and took his 2 children as her own. Bessie was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, and had a wonderful marriage to Mr. Morgan until his passing in 1973. Bess was the youngest of her 7 siblings, and was "spoiled rotten" as they loved to say.
Bess was a member of the "Anna Cotton Gardner Club" which she joined in 1947, and worked making gifts for cancer patients and the needy. The club taught cooking, gardening, canning, and sewing which were Bessie's favorite things to do.
Bessie moved to La Plantation assisted living in 2011 until the flood in 2016, after which she was moved around to a few places until making her home at the Care Center of Baton Rouge until her passing.
Bessie is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Lawton and Josie Heughan, and Ronnie and Elinor Heughan. She is also survived by her step children Reverend Bob Galatas, Miriam Pauley and their spouses.
Cherished Grandmother of Chet, Pat, and Erin Heughan, Sheryl H. Duncan and Jonathan Heughan, all of whom lovingly call her "Grandma Bess".
