Berta Mayer

August 19, 1931 — April 21, 2009

A resident and native of Baton Rouge, she died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Hospice of Baton Rouge. She was 77. Graveside service to be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, April 22, at 2 p.m. Survived by her husband, Carroll S. Sonny Mayer Jr.; two daughters, Debra Mayer Sledge and husband G. Wayne Sledge, and Karen Mayer Quartano and husband Steve Quartano; son, Carroll S. Sparky Mayer III and wife Buffy Devall Mayer; sister, Jane Laycock Staples and husband John B. Staples; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William K. Laycock; and sister, Ann Laycock Wise. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, the Junior League of Baton Rouge and Chi Omega. She attended LSU. Special thanks to the staffs at Lakewood Quarters Retirement Village Memory Lane and Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge or Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area.
