Bernice Levell "Red" Yates a resident of Prairieville, LA passed away February 28, 2020. Red as he was called by his family and friends was born February 23, 1924 in Magee, MS. He was 96 years young. Red was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy as a seaman from December 1944 to April 1946. Upon discharge his remarks included the Victory Medal, American Area Asiatic Pacific Area, Philippine Liberation 1-Star and Silver Star recipient.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Flossie Yates; mother, Arabelle Yates and his father, James Madison Yates; his son, Jimmy Austin Yates; his daughter, Linda Yates Hughes; two grandsons, Damon Kitchens and Chris Allen and many beloved sisters & brothers.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Fred) Yates Walters, Paula Yates Campbell and Ricky (Joann) Carter who took care of him for 32 years and that he loved like he was his own son. Four stepsons, one stepdaughter. Pawpaw Red loved and was loved by 21 grandkids, 43 great grandkids and 6 great great-grandkids, many nieces, nephews and extended family as well as his best friend Hunter Willett. They were the horseshoe throwing, domino playing, hot dog eating, rotel dipping dynamic duo!
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on March 1, 2020 from 11:00 am until funeral services at 2:30 pm. Interment will follow at a later date at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
