Bernard Paul Blanchard,
resident of Central for 40 years, native of Lutcher, and childhood resident of New Roads, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the age of 88 at his residence at Sunrise Assisted Living.
He was a proud veteran who courageously served in the United States Navy during WWII. Bernard retired from GoudchauxsMaison Blanche as a salesman of the Mens Suit Department for 40 years. He was an avid gardener and woodworker. Bernard took much pride in his yard work. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for 41 years and a member of the Usher Society. Bernard was a sports enthusiast being a LSU football season ticket holder for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Minnie Lee Blanchard daughters, Lisa Blanchard Raynal and Colette Blanchard brother, Patrick Blanchard and numerous nieces and nephews. Bernard is preceded in death by his father, Julius Blanchard mother, Mabel Blanchard brother, Leroy Blanchard sister, Theresa Blanchard and soninlaw, Terry Raynal.
Visiting hours will be observed at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visiting will resume at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd., on Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 9:00 am until service time. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, conducted by Father Mike Moroney. Pallbearers are Guy Blanchard, Floyd Barbay, Mike Mack, James Chadwick, David Provost, Darryl Mack, Wesley Kerstens, Jeff DAquanno, and honorary pallbearer, Kevin Chadwick. Interment will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living and Hospice of Baton Rouge. A sincere thanks to nurse Nettie Guedon for her loving spirit and dedication and to Collin Gauthier of the Sea Cadets for assisting with the Military Honor Guard.
