Bennie Warren Johnson departed this life at noon Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Ochsner Medical Center-Baton Rouge after a lengthy illness. He was 83 and a resident of Baton Rouge for the past 56 years. Bennie was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 457 Bomb Group in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He was a ball turret gunner with 27 bombing missions over Germany from his base in England. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Victor Johnson. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Louise Johnson; a son, Daniel Warren; a daughter, Christine Elizabeth Fawley; four grandchildren, Russell and Abigail Bates, and Michael and Matthew Johnson; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Bill Johnson, of Baton Rouge. Bennie was a graduate of LSU and retired from the Louisiana Department of Labor. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and caregivers at Ochsner Hospitals and clinics for the excellent care he has received over the years.
