Barry Lee Moore, Sr., 77, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 1, 2016. Barry lived life on his own terms, accepted his final illness with grace, and never lost his sense of humor. He enjoyed a long career in the road construction industry and made many lifelong friends along the way. Barry graduated from Catholic High School, attended LSU, and then entered the United States Army. Barry started his career at DOTD, then left to start his own businesses: Barry L. Moore & Associates, AACO Engineering, and Bear Industries. Barry was a former director of the Louisiana Asphalt and Pavement Association (LAPA).
Barry was a devoted father and grandfather. He enjoyed entertaining his family and friends with stories from his younger days. In particular, he told stories from his days spent exasperating the brothers at Catholic High School, where one Brother finally challenged Barry to a boxing match, which he accepted. The winner remains a matter of history.
Barry is survived by one son from his marriage to Carolyn Clay: Barry II (Madalyn); two sons and a daughter from his marriage to Pat Garrett: Darren (Danielle), Cass, and Lenae Moore Dabbs (Beau); his grandchildren, Matthew and William Moore, Kayla Authement (Dexter), Chassidy Lockhart (Joe), and Marlana Moore, Colby Moore, and Celeste Pitre (Sean); and great-grandchildren: Lane, Brayden, Aria, Dyson, Raylee and Kellen He is also survived by his brother, P.D. (Prentiss Duncan) Moore, sister-in-law Patricia, and their children. Barry was preceded in death by his grandson, Marshall Dabbs.
Barry also helped to raise five stepchildren during his third marriage: Michael, Anthony, Sandra, Claudia, and Lisa.
The family wishes to thank everyone who helped Barry during his final illness and the many friends that came to visit and lift his spirits. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Darlene Jones for her care and kindness.
Memorial services will be held at St. Aloysius Church on Friday, March 11, with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m., followed by mass at 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
