Barbara, age 86 passed away 09/19/21. She graduated from Istrouma High High School in 1953.
Retired from DOTD after 42 years of service. Barbara was very active as she was a girlscout leader for 10 years and also coached girls softball ( TV Bugs and Baton Rouge bombers ) for over 25 years. Following retirement, she began playing the organ and joined the Baton Rouge Organ Club. She so enjoyed it! Barbara had another passion for flowers and was considered a Master Gardener. She loved her children and everything she did revolved around them. She was very giving and compassionate . She will be missed !
Barbara is survived by her five girls; Pam Martin, June Owen, Barbara Nagim, Ruth Hawkins and Dawn Brown and three sons in law- Gt Owen, Jeff Nagim and Mike Brown. She has two sisters, Carolyn Clay and Janet Mason. There are 8 grandchildren and 9 great gradchildren. Many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband-John P Hawkins, son-Jim C. Hawkins, Her mother Beulah Pegues, Father- Jack Clay and siblings ; TJ, Frank, and Francis.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 12:30 PM until services at 2:30 PM.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to The Hospice Of Baton Rouge, especially her primary nurse Katharyn Dispenza, NP. We also want to thank Old Jefferson Community Center for taking good care of her.
