Anthony “Sonny” Ringo passed away peacefully at his home Thursday December 7, 2023 at the age of 87. He was born June 23, 1936 in New Orleans, LA. Anthony grew up in the small farming town of Torbert, LA.
After graduating high school, he briefly attended college before departing for Japan to serve as an MP in the United States Army. Upon his return, he married, started a family and moved to Baton Rouge.
Sonny was a prominent business owner in the local tire industry for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family. In his spare time he enjoyed working alongside his cousins, C.J. Ringo and S.J. Ringo on the family pecan orchard in Torbert. He also enjoyed country music and playing guitar. He was especially proud of teaching his grandson to play. He also enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids compete in their many sporting activities. Those around him knew him to be a man of character with strong morals and values and strong work ethic. A man dedicated to family and friends.
Sonny is survived by his brother, Sam Ringo (Pat), sons, John Ringo, Michael Ringo (Carrie), Frank Ringo (Laura), daughter-in-law Tammy Buhler, and his former spouse of 35 years, Mary Ethel Ringo. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Jennifer Booty (Josh), Kristin, Meghann Ringo (Jason), Brandon Ringo (Brandi), Amanda Teal (Chris), Trais Ringo, Danielle Hearne (Brad), Dylan Ringo, Christopher Ringo and Lauren Ringo, as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Sonny also leaves behind his beloved dachshund, Lily, who was his constant companion and never left his side, even when he was no longer able to get around.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Angelina Ringo, sister, Theresa “Dot” Traina, and son, Robert Ringo.
