Anne Weidig

Anne Harkey Weidig, 63, died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at her home in Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be at 9 AM Saturday at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd on the campus of Episcopal High School, 3200 Woodland Ridge Blvd. The funeral will begin in the Chapel at 11 AM followed by burial at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Anne was born in Vicksburg, MS on April 11, 1946, and grew up in Wichita Falls, TX. She graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Sociology. She later earned a Masters of Arts in Humanities degree in English from Louisiana State University. Anne taught English at Episcopal High School for 17 years and was department head for 16 years. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a member of the Altar Guild at St. James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge. She was an active recruiter for TCU. She is survived by her husband, Charles Weidig; two daughters Laura Weidig of Decatur, GA and Amy Shoemaker of Baton Rouge; one granddaughter Ellie Shoemaker; a sister Lanny Beery and her husband Tom of Pascagoula, MS; a sister-in-law Claudia Weidig Shields and her husband Greg of Grandbury, TX; three nieces, Lori Warren and her husband John, Peggy Steward and her husband Michael, all from Pascagoula, MS, and Beth Beery of Decatur, GA; three nephews, Marc Shields and his wife Justina of Fort Worth, TX, Phillip Shields of Grandbury, TX and David Shields of Phoenix, AZ, and 8 great nieces and nephews; four aunts and uncles, James Richard Carter and his wife Leta, Laurance Carter and his wife Joyce, Emogene Carter, all of Rolling Fork, MS and Berger Mayne of Yellow Springs, OH, and 10 cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Nell Carter, her father Swepson Harkey, her aunt Yolande Mayne and her uncle Wallace Carter. Anne was a wonderful wife and mother. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, especially the hundreds of students she taught over the years. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Services of the Capital Area, 3772 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
