Anna Claire Southwick

March 24, 1929 — July 14, 2024

Anna Claire Southwick passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born in Baton Rouge on March 24, 1929.

Anna Claire graduated from Our Lady of the Lake Nursing School and went on to touch countless lives through her work as a registered nurse, primarily as an industrial health nurse.

She was a dedicated member of the Retired Registered Nurses of Greater Baton Rouge and after retiring enjoyed volunteer work at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital as a “pink lady”. She was actively involved in the St. George Catholic Church community as a member of the Rosary Prayer Group and Golden Oaks.

Anna Claire loved all LSU sports, but her favorites were baseball and football. She loved watching games with family and friends and looked forward to annual lake house trips, where she enjoyed the quiet of nature. Sewing, playing cards, reading, and tending to houseplants brought her great joy, as well as spending time with family. But above all those hobbies, was her daily devotion to God through rosary and prayer.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Susan Hendry (Steve), Georganna Rudh (Mats), and Jeannine Barr (Jim); grandchildren, Timothy Hendry, Stephanie McDaniel, Matthew Brogdon, Annalane Owens, and Wes Brogdon; great-grandchildren, Isaac Hendry, Kingston Hendry, Audrey McDaniel, Sophie McDaniel, James Owens, Hugh Owens, Gus Owens; and Remy Brogdon; and bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bode McDaniel, Ingrid Rudh, Stephen Rudh, Matthew Rudh, Sara Vince (Olivia, Jesse, Lola).

Anna Claire is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, George Southwick; her parents, Herman Hubert Annison and Claire Helmke Annison; her sister, Betty Jean Watkins; and her brother, H.H. Annison.

Services will take place at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 Saint George Drive in Baton Rouge on Friday, July 19, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at St. George Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Hospice of Baton Rouge.

The family would like to give a special thanks to The Hospice of Baton Rouge, Dr. Gerald Barber, Lisa Comeaux (RN), Marsha Jordan, Cassie Oliver, Loise Lanus, and best friend and devoted neighbor for 50+ years, Mary Barber.
