In Loving Memory of my mother, Ann Sanders Strickland.
Ann was born on December 7th, 1925, and went to her heavenly home at the age of 98 years, one month, and 5 days on Thursday, January 11th, 2024. Ann was a native of north Louisiana having been born in the parish of Natchitoches during the great depression. On Ann’s 16th birthday in 1941, Pearl Harbor was bombed and the United States entered into World War II. My mother would later recall wartime rationing and collecting aluminum items to support the war effort. As an adult, Ann moved with her parents and siblings to the capital city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she met her husband, Wilbur Burke Strickland, on a blind date set up by a friend. Ann and Wilbur were lovingly married for many years until his death in 1973. At the age of 50, Ann learned how to drive and completed her GED and business school training to secure a job as a state employee. After working for many years at the Louisiana Department of Labor in Baton Rouge, she retired at the age of 82. Ann was of Choctaw Indian ancestry and was proud of her native American heritage.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Agnes M. Sanders; her Husband, Wilbur B. Strickland; a son, Danny Ray Dew; brothers, Fred, Sam, Odis, Michael, Billy, Bobby, Larry; and a sister, Linda Sanders.
