Ann Adkins

September 12, 1934 — January 5, 2018

Ann Clairece Woods Adkins, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Friday January 5th, 2018 at the age of 83.

Despite being born into near-poverty conditions in Kosciusko, MS, growing up without a mother and marrying at age 16, she was a true survivor and a quick study. Ann bought herself a sewing machine with H&S green stamps and quickly became a self-taught master seamstress creating beautiful custom clothing for her 3 daughters. She was also quite the cook and always kept the most immaculate house on the block! At age 38, she enrolled in nursing school and worked in BR General Burn Unit as well as ICU's and CCU's in MS and Utah always with outstanding efficiency and compassion until her retirement at age 65. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her sisters, daughters and grandchildren.

Ann is survived by her 3 daughters, Debbie Blackwell Schmid (Robert) Terri Blackwell LeBlanc (Conway) and Beth Blackwell LaFave. Grandchildren, Amy Sorge, Rachel Lemn, Benjamin LeBlanc, Susannah LeBlanc and Samuel LaFave. Great-grandchildren, Andrew Schmid, Charlotte Sorge, Sawyer Lemn and Reese Lemn. Dear friend Martha Vaughn. Beloved pets, Lillie and Brother.

Preceded in death by parents, Opal Lavada Bishop Woods and Robert Lacy Woods, sisters, Betty Woods Pray and Annette Woods Smith.

A private gathering will be held at a later date but family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Elizabeth Foundation (adoption agency) at: 8054 Summa Ave., Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70809

Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16 and she loved to say, "I'm so blessed and God has taken such good care of this little girl from Kosciusko!"
