On the morning of Friday, April 8, 2016, Angelina Mumphrey Wilson, age 85, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away at her home. She was the family's matriarch and now guardian angel. Angelina was a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul. Her quick wit, sharp tongue, over-abundance of compassion, capacity for forgiveness, unconditional acceptance of all people, and gracious giving to the community cannot be matched.
Angelina was the co-founder, along with her late husband, of the Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation. Through the family foundation, the Wilson's generously shared in their philanthropic endeavors, which have been particularly sensitive to the mentally and physically handicapped, those affected with disease, disadvantaged youth, the formerly incarcerated, and the hungry and homeless.
Angelina and Huey also founded the Louisiana Hemophilia Association. She was also a member of the Salvation Army of Baton Rouge Women's Auxiliary and a founding member of the Louisiana Capital Area American Red Cross Tiffany Circle. Angelina enjoyed volunteering at Southern Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Angelina is survived by her daughter, Dianne Wilson-Waller; son, Denver Clint Wilson; grandchildren, Andrea Wilson Doming, Reneé Graphia Joyal and Dax Wilson; great-grandchildren, Olivia Nicole Miller, Jack Allain and Piper Helena Joyal; and dear friends, Anthony Robinson and Doris Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Huey John Wilson; son, John Huey Wilson; as well as one brother and five sisters.
