Alta Rae Sanders, born on August 11, 1937, passed away on July 14, 2024, at the age of 86.
Alta was born in Alton, Illinois to Charles and Ruby Van Deusen. After she completed high school, she went on to marry her love, Robert Sanders, and spent her years being a housewife and caring for her family. She grew up in Illinois and moved to Baton Rouge in 1963. She attended University United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for 40 years. Alta always enjoyed cooking, shopping, jewelry, singing, Christmas, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Alta is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Grant) Sanders Giesler; son, Thomas (Susan) Sanders; grandchildren, Christopher (Maria), Nicholas, and Kaitlyn Giesler, and Savannah, Sophie Grace, and Ethan Sanders; as well as her nieces, Janice McAfee and Marsha Chamberlain.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Robert N. Sanders; parents, Charles and Ruby Van Deusen; and stepmother, Helen Van Deusen.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the staff at Sunrise for taking such wonderful care of her for the last 6 years.
Services will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory on Saturday, July 20, 2024, beginning at 9am, officiated by Deacon Brent Duplessis.
