Alma Anita Mitchell Thorgeson transitioned into her home on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, in Las Cruces, N.M. Born on March 12, 1917, in Shreveport, she resided in Baton Rouge until her move in 2006 to be with her daughter and grandchildren. She married Roy A. Thorgeson Jr. on June 20, 1941. She fondly remembered her work at Davis Wholesale, managing the cafeteria at the State Capital in Baton Rouge and her years at College Supply Bookstore near LSU. She shared with others her flavorful Louisiana-style cooking, handwork par excellence, and her love of football and reading. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Thorgeson; grandchildren, Erika R. Dunn and Christopher E. Dunn, of Las Cruces; sister, Edwina Kelly, of Eugene, Ore.; loving companions, Belle and Ivy; nephew, William H. Dyer III; nieces, Dale Dyer and Lynette Elgin; other nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Peggy Bond and Pat Smith; and good neighbors, Carol, Dave, John and Donna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Thorgeson Jr.; son, Roy A. Little Brother Thorgeson III; sister, Margaret Sue Dyer; and parents, Logan Edward Mitchell and Maude Lee Dyess. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Sept. 16 , from 9 a.m. until celebration of her life at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Shannon DeLaureal. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In her memory, gifting may be made to your choice of a nature conservancy organization.
