Allyne Ann Elkins Fort, 84, went safely to the outstretched arms of Jesus at her daughter's home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Friday, September 1, 2017 surrounded by her devoted husband and family. She was born January 23, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas. Allyne graduated from Hooks High School and attended Texarkana Jr. College. She worked at the Plant Science Department at Texas A&M and on the Apollo 14 Mission at NASA. She came to Louisiana in 1967 with her husband and best friend, Ben Fort Jr., whom she was married to for 65 wonderful years and was blessed with a large and loving family.
Allyne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to three children, 13 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Morning her passing, yet knowing she is at home with the Lord are her devoted husband, Ben Fort Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, sister, Helen Bacon of San Angelo, Texas; her daughter, Beverly Hoffman and husband Dennis of Slidell, Louisiana; son, Ben Fort III and wife Marlene of Brugge, Belgium, and daughter Amy (Foreman) Plaisance and husband Michael of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; grandchildren, Brandon Foreman and wife Amy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Taylor (Fabian) Roberts and husband Morgan of Arlington, Texas, Wayne Hoffmann and wife Jennifer of Harahan, Louisiana, Brad Hoffmann and wife Katie of Opelousas, Louisiana, West Fort and wife Faye of Seoul, South Korea, Elizabeth Foreman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Christian Hoffmann of Slidell, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Jacey, Ava, Charlie, Kaydence, and Gage Hoffmann, Brelynn Dew, Kylee, Dylan and Tyler Foreman, Lilly, Vincent and Zyanna Fort, Sora Fabian; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members of the Fort and Elkins families. Allyne was preceded in death by parents Ethel Ann Grindstaff Elkins and Everett Young, brothers William and Everett Elkins, sisters Martha Booth and Grace Kasten of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Blake Foreman and great-grandson, Alex Foreman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church for over 40 years, and active in Lake Sherwood Garden Club, PEO, Chapter W, Town & Country Study Club, Lagniappe Woman's Club, and The Woman's Club of Baton Rouge.
Allyne was a wonderful homemaker to her family. Together, she and her husband raised three children with patience, love, discipline, and an unending acceptance; and she provided so many memories for her loved ones to remember.
Allyne's visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from noon to 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the chapel conducted by Reverend Michael Hardaway of Parkview Baptist Church.
