Alice Scudder Oliver

Alice Scudder Oliver passed away on January 8, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the age of 89. She was born on September 21, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Harold and Dorthy Wessleman Scudder. She lived a life filled with artistry, compassion, and dedication to her family and the furry friends she so dearly loved.

Alice was a retired owner of Happy Tails Pet House, a testament to her deep-rooted love for animals and her commitment to advocating for their rights. Through her business, she not only cared for pets but also fostered connections within the community, encouraging others to support animal welfare. Her passion extended beyond her work; she was an artist at heart, finding joy in painting and drawing, which allowed her to express her creativity and share her vision with the world.

She is survived by her children, Susan O. Jackson (Mike), Beverly O. Thornton, Barbara O. Gahn (Joseph), and Donald R. Oliver Jr.; brothers, John Scudder and Harold Scudder; grandchildren, Maxwell Thornton, Samantha (Michael) Moisant, Alexandra (Colin) Knight, Paul (Shaofei) Jackson, and Benjamin Brouillette; and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, Donald R. Oliver Sr.; her parents, Harold Scudder and Dorthy Wesselmen, and stepfather, Raymond Wesselmen; sons, David Allen Oliver and Michael Reid Oliver; and sister, Martha Loefler.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with a memorial service to begin at 2:00 PM. 

The family would like to give special thanks to JoAnna, Alice’s CNA from Heritage Manor. JoAnna went above and beyond to care for Alice during their time spent together.
