Alfie Lockhart Allatto DiBenedetto was born on July 28, 1928 in Holden, Louisiana. She made her final journey home to our Lord at the age of 88 on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. from Colonial Care Nursing Home.
A devoted wife and loving mother, Alfie's generous and giving nature was evident in how she cared for her family and her husband of 46 years, Leon DiBenedetto. Over the years her passion for cooking became a hallmark of Sunday dinners, holidays and family get-togethers. Never one to be caught short, Alfie always had "several" exceptional meals cooked and ready to serve at a moment's notice. Of course, dinner was never complete without dessert and her famous Orange Cake will be talked about for years to come. Those who knew Alfie best will remember that she was just as prepared to serve a great meal while travelling as she was at home. A favorite memory of Leon's is having steak dinner with all the trimmings in their motor home, in the pouring rain, at an LSI) away-game. Over the years, Alfie's strong will and determination kept her going even as her health began to decline. Never one to complain, she tried as best she could to continue to take care of her home and her husband until a few short years ago, when Leon became her caregiver. Alfie's sense of humor and quick-wit will be missed by all, especially by her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Alfie is survived by her devoted husband Leon, who cared for her and stood by her side as her health continued to decline; her sister, Bette Lockhart Connors and husband Fred Connors; brother, Gene Lockhart, Sr.; daughter- in-law, Gail Allatto; son-in-law, Pete Smith, sons James "Jimmy" DiBenedetto and wife Stephanie, Alan DiBenedetto; daughter, Janet DiBenedetto Nettles; daughter-in-law, Tracy DiBenedetto; 13 grandchildren, Marella, Bridget, Shayne, Joey, Lance, Ryan, Haylea, Lori, Kim, Michael, Adam, Kayla and Kelsi; 14 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her dear friend for many years, Tracie Dugas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Frank and Viola P. Lockhart; brother, Muriel F. Lockhart; sisters, Dorothy Lockhart Miller and Emma Lockhart Copeland; sons, Sam "Sammy" Allatto and Robert "Bobby" DiBenedetto; daughter, Paulina "Paula" Allatto Smith and grandson Justin DiBenedetto.
