He was born in Queens, N.Y., on Oct. 22, 1930, to Adolph Alois and Emily Bohaty Zoudlik, and died on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1948 and Adelphi University, Garden City, N.Y., in 1952. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was predeceased by his parents, and loving wife, Ann. Survived by his daughters, Laine Zoudlik, of Baton Rouge, Ellen Zoudlik, of Dallas, and Susie Whitlow, her husband, Rich, and their children, Ashley and John, all of Baton Rouge; sister, Ursula Lashen and husband Howie of Garden City; niece, Frances Guida, of California; nephew, Woody Lashen, of Garden City; a host of friends and his faithful canine companion, Lucy. Although born and raised in New York, Dolph moved to New Orleans after serving in the U.S. Army, primarily to be closer to the Dixieland and jazz music that he loved. It was in New Orleans where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Ann Roulston Snipes, of Louisville, Ky. They were married by her father, a Presbyterian minister, at the home of Ann's parents in El Dorado, Ark., on May 27, 1959, and spent the next 47 years together raising their family in New Orleans and later in Baton Rouge. Dolph worked for Cronatron Welding Systems for 25 years, retiring in 2006. In addition to jazz music, Dolph loved golf, bridge, tai chi, LSU baseball and traveling. His daughters recall many adventures on family road trips and he and Ann spent their retirement years visiting family and friends and seeing the country. Attending Jazz Fest was an annual tradition for Dolph, Ann, their children and grandchildren. Dolph loved a good bargain, was a terrific haggler and was eternally optimistic, gregarious and outgoing. He rarely met a stranger and will never be forgotten by those who knew him. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Orleans Jazz Heritage Foundation Inc., 1205 N.
