Abel Mendoza passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his residence in Baton Rouge. He was 88 years old. Abel was born on March 26, 1925 in Corpus Christi, TX to the late Ysidro and Guadalupe Arroyo Mendoza. He was raised in Wharton, TX. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. After he was discharged from the Navy, Abel moved to Houston where he met and married his wife of 64 years, Rosalie Miller Mendoza. Abel is survived by his wife, Rosalie, Daughters Kathleen Mendoza, Patricia DeBate and husband Glynn Pete, Barbara Schexnayder and husband Kim Son, Thomas Mendoza and Shirley Digirolamo who was like a daughter to him and grandchildren, Christopher DeBate, Kyle Schilling, Adam DeBate and wife Mandi and Lauren Schexnayder. He is also survived by brother, Dan Mendoza and wife Miff and sister, Mary Dooley and husband Tom and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and 2 sisters, and his father and mother in law Thomas and Johanna Miller. Abel was retired from Prudential Insurance. He is a member of the American Legion Nicholson Post 38. He was a former member of the Lutcher Green Wave Club and the Redemptorist High School Packbackers. He was a life long fan of the New York Yankees. For many years he and Rosalie enjoyed attending Tulane Football games with best friends Vilma and the late Warren Duffy. Visaitation will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 1 pm until Mass of Christian burial at 3 pm at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 15615 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge with Father Phil Spano as the celebrant.
