"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so He put His arms around you and
whispered come to Me. With tearful eyes, we watched and saw you pass away, and though we
loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, a precious soul
to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best."
Cedric, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away peacefully at the Carpenter House surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Born in Sikes, Louisiana on October 20, 1936 to James Quincy Vickers and Chlotide Herring Vickers. He came to Baton Rouge at the age of 17 to attend LSU where he earned a degree in Education. A 32-year career with EBR City Parish DPW started in the drafting room and concluded at his retirement at the age of 52 as the Head of Data Processing. A man with many hobbies and talents. He was a perfectionist in everything he did. A master in woodworking making everything from furniture to earrings. An avid skeet shooter, Cedric was a life member of the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA); serving on the board of directors for the Baton Rouge Gun Club, a director at large for the Louisiana Skeet Shooting Association (LSSA), and a charter member of Hunters Run Gun Club. He was inducted to the LSSA Hall of Fame in 2001 along with his wife, Teresa. A true
competitor and he never lost. This included playing checkers, gin rummy, growing vegetables,
hunting, fishing, billiards and, of course, skeet.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Teresa Blanchard Vickers; daughter, Debbie Vickers Stevens (Mark), sons, Michael D. Vickers (Debbie) and Daryl R. Vickers (June); grandchildren, Casey, Alexandra and Cayla Vickers, Leigh Ann Chiari (Fabio), Sarah Loredo (Dyango); Rachael Roeten and fiancé (Kalen Tyler), Rachel, Rebecca and Trent Vickers; Abby, Brandon and Jonathan Stevens; great grandchildren, Mia, Luca and Domani Chiari; a brother, Earl Vickers (Carol) and a niece, Kerry Vickers Krespin (Danny).
He is predeceased by his parents, James Quincy Vickers and Chlotide Herring Vickers, and a brother James Tracy Vickers.
