Charlene Coreil Hand of Baton Rouge, LA entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the age of 70. Charlene was born August 25, 1947 and raised in Ville Platte, LA as the youngest of 4 siblings born to the late Armand Bernard Coreil, Sr. and Thelma Perrodin Coreil. Charlene is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert “Bob” Joseph Hand; sons, Michael Kevin Hand and Jeffery Andrew (Emily J.) Hand; 8 grandchildren, Ashley Claire, Matthew Joseph, Maxwell Coppinger, Marcella Coreil, Molly Kathleen, Mannix Cornelius, Maverix Cavanagh, and Myles Joseph (due Feb. 2018); and brother, Raymond Clyde Coreil. Her parents and brothers, Armand Bernard “A.B” Coreil, Jr. and Kerne Maurice Coreil, Sr. preceded her in death.

Charlene and Bob were high school sweethearts who married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte, LA on Sept. 16, 1967. They shared their love over the years in raising their family and traveling. Charlene was a faithful Catholic who served God through the ministries of the church, as well as in her daily acts of humility. She was mostly recently known for her dedication to the St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church through involvement with RCIA, CCD, Catholic Daughters, Eucharistic Ministry, mass lector, bible study, parents’ night out, the food pantry, emergency assistance program, and community garden. Charlene will always be remembered for placing God and family above all else, the love she spread, being the world’s best friend, and her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. She was also quite talented at spoiling her grandchildren as they were the lights of her life. She will be deeply missed.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the services. Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 from 6:00pm-7:00pm followed by the Rosary at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will resume Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 from 11:00am-12:30pm followed by the funeral mass at 12:30pm at St. Jean Vianney Church, 16166 S Harrells Ferry Rd, Baton Rouge, LA. The burial committal will follow the funeral mass at Resthaven. Please honor Charlene Hand, if you are so inclined, with a donation to St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church.

Bob, I am very sorry for the loss. I was out of town Sunday and after reading the paper this morning I just saw the notice. I will not be able to make the funeral but you and Charlene will be on my mind. You two are probably the nicest people i ever met. I wish you the best.

Charlene was a former co-worker and I always admired her Christian beauty. I am so sorry that I will not be able to be with her family to celebrate mass for her final victory. Family illness and injuries are prohibitive for me to be there. Prayers for peace and comfort for her family and for the repose of her soul. We do know that all the faithful go to heaven and her place there awaits her as she prepares a path for us and our new journey. God bless to all.

I remember Charlene growing up with my sister Wanda at Sacred Heart in Ville Platte. She was the sweetest, most precious kid and you could see the purity of heart in her. Even though I have not seen her in a long time I will remember her with love. She was most blessed with such a good, caring husband Bob. She is now resting in the arms of her Lord. Rest in peace Charlene.

    Bob,
Charlene was like a second older sister in High School. She was the embodiment of what Sacred Heart was like as well as a Catholic girl that has inspired all of us that knew her. She is missed and loved. My prayers for you and the family.

Charlene will be sadly missed by many people. When someone met Charlene, one was immediately touched by her spirit of love, kindness, understanding and sincerity. She was a true Christian in every sense of the word and a role model for all. Bob, her husband, was the center of her life for 50 years and she was the center of his life. What a beautiful partnership! Her sons hold a very special place in her heart! Charlene is also remembered for her beautiful smile! When she walked into a room, her smile brightened the entire room. Her life was also blessed with 7 beautiful grandchildren (and another one soon to be born!). She loved every grandchild in a very special way! Each was so precious to her. She loved family and treasured spending time with all!

I was so blessed to have Charlene in my life, as she was my husband's aunt - but more like a sister to him and a cherished friend to me. We have shared many good times with her family. We were fortunate to be with Bob, Charlene, Jeff, Emily and sweet Molly during a lot of her sickness and even up to her passing. She touched the lives of her doctors, hospital staff, neighbors, and all along that journey. Now, her sickness and struggles are over and she is in a better place! I pray that I can join her when I am called back to our heavenly home! Pray for us, Charlene! I love you so much! Rest in peace!

    Love,
    Arlene

Dear Bob and family, Ralph and I were so saddened to read of Charlene’s passing. She was a wonderful, faithful, caring woman. She helped us on our faith journey at St. Jean, many years ago, helping Ralph in RCIA join the church and helping me regain my love and faith in the Lord. Words can’t express her contribution to our lives. I think of her often and remember her quiet compassion and her joy in her faith. She would talk with me and exude faithful confident in God. That’s what most impressed me about Charleen. I was a stranger and yet she took me in. I’ll never forget her. Thank you for sharing her with us. May the Lord comfort you in the loss of this wonderful woman.

I knew Charlene only as an acquaintance through the Catholic Store she frequented in Baton Rouge. She was always joyful and pleasant and I enjoyed talking with her when she came in. Such a gracious lady in every way. I will miss seeing her and her beautiful smile that radiated her love of God. My prayers to the family of this beautiful person.

I will miss my Aunt Charlene so much. She was the heart and soul of our extended family and always made you feel you were the most important person in the world. She loved without limits and always saw the best in everyone. I thank God for blessing us and the world with her for 70 wonderful years. May she Rest In Peace forever with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Paiul Coreil

My beautiful, sweet Aunt Charlene...thank you for all the love and support that you have given me and my family over the years. You made Baton Rouge feel like home when we moved here during my teenage years. You helped me with my spiritual journey and growth, especially as my confirmation sponsor. You always supported and praised my academic accomplishments. And then, you made me and Ben’s engagement and marriage celebration so memorable. You were there every step of the way. Then, after medical school and residency, I had the ultimate pleasure of having you as my patient! It was an honor to be your doctor. And naming our sweet Lillian after your mother was an incredible gift! Lillian truly loves you and will always cherish the times that you had together. We are so blessed to have had you in our lives and are better people for it. You will always be a part of us. We honor you and love you forever. I’m so grateful that I was able to share this with you before you become one of our angels in heaven.
